The Anne & Charles Roos Fund was established in 2018 to honor Jan Bushing, her leadership as Chair of the Save the Dragon Campaign, and her countless hours restoring the Fannie Mae Dees Dragon’s mosaic vignettes.
Legacy & Estate Giving

Culminate a Lifetime of Giving
Build a legacy that lasts by continuing to support the causes you cherish, even beyond your lifetime.
Legacy planning is about the difference you make now, in a way that continues well beyond your lifetime. When you include charitable giving in your estate plan, you provide lasting support to the causes and organizations you’ve cared about all along.
For more than 35 years, families across Middle Tennessee have trusted CFMT to carry their philanthropic intentions forward. Whether you’re designating charitable assets from your estate or endowing a fund built to last for generations, we can help structure your giving around what matters most to you and what you want your generosity to accomplish.
Our Promise: Flexibility, Impact, and Connection
- Flexibility in Giving
Your personal and financial circumstances can change over time. We build your giving plan to adapt with you, so your support for the causes closest to you continues without disruption. - Amplified Impact
Your contributions are pooled with those of other CFMT donors, giving your legacy the reach of a much larger, coordinated effort toward the issues you care about most. - Extensive Community Connections
Our team’s knowledge of Middle Tennessee’s needs means your legacy gift is directed where it will do real, lasting good, whether that’s education, healthcare, the arts, or another cause close to you.

“A planned estate gift or fund requires a partner that you trust to manage the funds and implement your philanthropic goals in your name. CFMT is our philanthropic partner, and we could not be more confident that our planned estate fund is in the best hands.
The team helped us establish our estate giving plan and articulate the goals and parameters for how funds would be managed and distributed after we pass. They are incredibly warm, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and professional.”

Starting is simple.
Whether you’re looking to honor a loved one, celebrate a milestone, or ensure your favorite cause is supported forever, we’re here to help you craft a legacy that truly reflects your passion and values. Our team is ready to guide you through every step, making it easy to connect your generosity with impact.
Through CFMT, you can create a lasting legacy that supports future generations in our community. Here are several ways you can make a meaningful contribution through your estate:
Ways to Build Your Legacy
Leave a Charitable Bequest in Your Will
A charitable bequest can ensure the causes that matter to you and your family continue to receive support beyond your lifetime. You can leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, certain assets or the remainder of your estate to CFMT. Your gift can support an existing fund or establish a fund designed around your charitable intentions.
Charitable bequests may also offer estate tax benefits. Our team can work with you and your professional advisors to document your charitable intentions and help ensure they are carried forward as you envision.
Life Insurance
Life insurance can provide another way to make a significant charitable gift. You may name CFMT as a beneficiary of an existing policy, allowing all or a portion of the proceeds to support your charitable intentions after your lifetime.
In some circumstances, you may also choose to transfer ownership of an existing policy to CFMT during your lifetime. Depending on the structure of the gift and your individual circumstances, charitable tax benefits may be available.
IRA or Retirement Plan Assets
Retirement assets can be a powerful part of your charitable and estate planning. You can name CFMT as a primary or contingent beneficiary of an IRA or other retirement account, directing all or a portion of those assets to support the charitable purposes you choose.
If you are age 70½ or older, you may also be eligible to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA directly to an eligible fund at CFMT. QCDs can offer tax advantages while allowing you to support the causes you care about during your lifetime. QCDs cannot be made to donor advised funds.
Charitable Lead Trust
A charitable lead trust can allow you to support the causes you care about while also planning for the future transfer of assets to your family or other beneficiaries. The trust provides charitable distributions for a defined period, after which the remaining assets generally pass to the beneficiaries you have named.
CFMT can work alongside you and your legal and financial advisors to help define the charitable purpose of the gift and determine how distributions to CFMT can support your long-term philanthropic goals.
