This scholarship fund is a part of the CFMT General Scholarship Application that is open annually from December 1st to February 1st.
History: Mr. Lee, the Founder, of United Cities Gas Company, established a scholarship foundation in 1962 to benefit the educational endeavors of children in the United Cities Gas Company service areas. The scholarship was transferred to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in 2023.
Criteria: This fund is intended to endow renewable scholarships for children of former United Cities Gas Company employees or children of current Atmos Energy employees. The fund will also be open to applicants residing in the twelve (12) original communities previously served by United Cities Gas Company including:
Georgia – Gainesville
Illinois – Harrisburg, Metropolis, and Vandalia
North Carolina – Hendersonville
South Carolina – Gaffney
Tennessee – Columbia, Alcoa/ Maryville, Morristown, Murfreesboro, Shelbyville, Union City
Those eligible to apply may be a graduating high school senior or any undergraduate college level student. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA if attending a 4-year college/university or a 2.0 GPA if attending a technical/community college.
