Local news does more than report headlines
It helps people understand what’s happening in their schools and neighborhoods, and how decisions made nearby shape daily life. When people have access to clear, reliable local information, they are better able to participate in civic life and stay connected to the places they call home.
Across Middle Tennessee, the way people access information has shifted, and many local newsrooms are facing growing strain. These changes touch every kind of community, from larger cities to smaller rural towns, making it harder for residents to consistently find trusted, community-rooted reporting.

Press Forward Middle Tennessee brings together local partners and supporters to respond to these challenges. The effort focuses on strengthening the local news and information ecosystem by supporting sustainability and collaboration, while honoring the independence of journalists and news organizations.
This work is grounded in the belief that access to reliable local information serves the public good. Like other forms of civic infrastructure, strong local news helps communities function and adapt as they grow and change.
