Established 2007
The LeVasseur family established the Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund at The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in 2007 after the tragic passing of Alex on January 28, 2007. This Fund has been a way for the family to give back to the places and activities that Alex loved. More than anything, this Fund is about spreading Alex’s love and kindness to those in need. The money raised at the event will continue to support the programs and projects created in Alex’s memory. We continue to seek new and creative opportunities to partner with those who will positively impact the youth of our community.
The Alex LeVasseur Fund has been making grants since 2007. Over the past 19 years, we’ve made over 70 grants totaling more than $700,000. At the same time grants have been made, we’ve also been working to grow the Fund through fundraising and the investments guided by the Community Foundation. The growth and preservation of the Fund ensures that it will be around for supporting organizations long after the Jeffrey Steele & Friends event becomes an historic event. With help of this year’s event you have joined us in raising over $2.3 million dollars to support overlooked and at-risk youth throughout the years!
With help from the Jeffrey Steele & Friends events, The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund has been able to build partnerships and lend support to many youth focused organizations including: the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and their Y-CAP programs which help at-risk youth, The Beat of Life and their youth based music programing, The Skate Park Project a nonprofit started by Tony Hawk to support the building of skateparks across the country in the most vulnerable populations, and so many more.
