Julia is the ChildcareTennessee Coordinator for Northeast Tennessee. She travels that region holding trainings on ChildcareTennessee.com and assisting child care agencies in applying for ChildcareTennessee’s Support and Enhancement Grant. Julia also serves as the Establishment/Expansion Grant Coordinator for 22 counties.
Julia earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Organization Development from Spring Arbor University in Michigan, and previously worked for over 20 years in early childhood education as a Director. Supporting providers and elevating the quality of childcare in our Community is Julia’s passion.
“It is a privilege to work with a group of people who are committed to responding to the needs of our communities, and to partner with other leaders in the community to create a better future for generations to come,” says Julia. “I love the Mr Rodgers quote, ‘We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say, “It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.””
Outside of work, Julia has an art studio in Burns, Tennessee where she teaches adult paint parties with the revenue going to the Studio Kids Art Class Scholarship Fund. Last year the fund awarded 30 scholarships to kids in Dickson and Hickman counties.
When not painting, Julia likes to play in her garden, read historical non-fiction, travel, and spend time with her family.
