Barbara Richards grew up in beautiful, rural Giles County, where life was tranquil and neighbors cared about each other. James Richards was reared in the more urban East Nashville, but the important values of friendship and neighborliness were still the same. When the Richards’ children, Barbara Hagen and Jay Richards, sought a way to honor their mother and father, they decided to set up scholarships bearing their parents’ names to aid the communities in which each was raised.
