As part of his estate planning, John Mayfield started an endowment as a surprise for his good friend, Rick Slaughter. Rick, who uses a wheelchair, founded ABLE (Athletes Building Life Experiences), which introduces children in wheelchairs to all types of sports, such as basketball, tennis and skiing. The program helps children become independent in all of their daily activities.
