Giving Always Matters.

For the past nine years, there has been a day each May when the community has rallied and showered area nonprofits with its generosity.

This 24 hours of giving, known to many as The Big Payback, is a full day to celebrate the spirit of giving and collaboration, and ultimately, the extraordinary work that nonprofits do in Middle Tennessee every day.

In its nine year history, The Big Payback, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, has helped to raise more than $25 million from a total of 180,583 donations for participating nonprofits, schools, and faith-based organizations.

Starting at 6pm on May 4, you can make a gift to your favorite organizations quickly and easily, and help us lift up the organizations that help make Middle Tennessee a place we’re proud to call home. Discover nonprofits by issue or focus of work, geographic area, or simply type in the name of an organization into the search bar.

How Does The Big Payback Work?

  • Starting at 6pm on May 4, donors have 24 hours to make gifts to more than 850 participating nonprofits, including schools and religious institutions, which are located in or provide services to the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee.
  • Gifts from the public are boosted with funds from sponsors of The Big Payback. Nonprofits vie for financial incentives and prizes totaling more than $245,000.
  • Our leaderboard tracks donations in real time and shares the organizations awarded prizes throughout the day.

It is 24 hours to celebrate the spirit of giving and collaboration, and ultimately, the extraordinary work that nonprofits do in Middle Tennessee.

A Look Back at Big Payback 2021

Donor fatigue? Not on Middle Tennessee’s watch.

Amid 14 months that have included worldwide pandemic and economic hardship, disastrous tornadoes and floods, and a downtown Nashville bombing on Christmas morning, generosity continues to help define the city and region.

The Big Payback’s eighth annual 24-hour online giving event ended by raising more than $4.2 million — $4,265,674 — in 32,941 donations to participating area nonprofit organizations, schools and religious institutions.

The preliminary total includes funds raised and prize totals.

In its history, The Big Payback has helped more than 1,000 area nonprofits by raising more than $25 million — $25,219,297— in cumulative gifts.

An event-record 1,017 Middle Tennessee organizations from 33 counties signed up to participate in this year’s event, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

The Big Payback is a community-wide online giving day designed to give the public the opportunity to pay back the nonprofits that make this a place we are proud to call home.
