Arts Build Communities 2011 Grant Recipients

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Announces More Than $64,000 in Arts Build Communities Grants

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a charitable organization benefiting nonprofits in Middle Tennessee, has awarded more than $64,000 in Arts Build Communities (ABC) grants to 40 organizations in 17 counties.

Specific grants to organizations include:

Cheatham County
Pegram Elementary School has received a grant to introduce students to fiber arts through workshops, student art exhibits and a community concert.

Clay County
Maple Grove School has received a grant to create a painted wall mural for the school.

Coffee County
Community Playhouse has received a grant to produce the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Manchester Municipal Arts Commission has received a grant to host three puppet shows for school children and the general public.

Manchester Parks and Recreation Department has received a grant to expand the music offerings at the Park Palooza Festival.

Millennium Repertory Company has received a grant to use the story of Anne Frank to encourage middle and high school students to discuss intolerance and prejudice.

Tullahoma Parks and Recreation has received a grant to bring a diverse program of the arts to families in Coffee, Moore and Franklin counties.

Cumberland County
Cumberland Artisans for Creative Expression has received a grant to host a youth expo featuring visual, performing and literary art from youth of Cumberland County.

Performing Arts Alliance of Rural Tennessee, Inc., has received a grant to present Coyote Run's production of “A Kilted Christmas.”

Fentress County
Sergeant York Patriotic Foundation has received a grant to showcase arts that were celebrated as skills vital to rural life throughout the Cumberland Plateau.

Franklin County
International Dogwood Festival has received a grant to host a hands-on puppet-making workshop for kids.

St. Andrew's-Sewanee School has received a grant to host a chamber music concert.

Giles County
Giles County Public Library has received a grant to create and perform new narrative, musical, theatrical productions for general audiences.

Hickman County
Hickman County Public Library has received a grant to produce a slide/video show of the musical traditions of Hickman County that will be performed at the Heritage Festival.

Narrow Gate Foundation has received a grant to provide an avenue for young men to learn wood turning and blacksmithing crafts from artists in Middle Tennessee.

Jackson County
Granville Museum, Inc., has received a grant to host the two-day Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival and competition featuring local artists.

Macon County
Macon County Arts Council has received a grant to present a three-day workshop in voice, dance and all aspects of performing arts for 4th-12th grade students.

Maury County
Maury County Public Library has received a grant to host community-based cultural activities featuring local heritage sites and artisans.

South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance has received a grant to create a live theatrical performance with at-risk students.

Spring Hill Public Library has received a grant for Kidz Kompany, to provide free arts training for a performing ensemble of children.

Tennessee Children's Home has received a grant to present a performance reading of “Scathe: A Civil War Incident in Middle Tennessee,” an original historical drama with music.

Putnam County
Algood Elementary School has received a grant to introduce students to homemade paper and book making.

Bryan Symphony Orchestra Association has received a grant to provide artistic fee support for artist and musicians selected for a Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 performance.

Hull York Lakeland Resource Conservation & Development has received a grant to support the construction, painting and placement of quilt squares in the Upper Cumberland region.

Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance has received a grant to support a part-time director for the agency.

Upper Cumberland Broadcast Council has received a grant to present 26, 30-minute music performances of Jammin at Hippie Jack's.

Upperman High School has received a grant to host ballet presentations and community workshops.

Robertson County
Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning has received a grant to present a multicultural arts festival featuring dancers, musicians, other performing artists.

Rutherford County
Children's Museum Corporation has received a grant to host workshops and performances, featuring the art and musical heritage of Murfreesboro.

Middle Tennessee State University Foundation has received a grant to support the guitar festival featuring evening concerts, master classes, workshops and outreach programs

Youth Empowerment through Arts & Humanities, Inc., has received a grant to support artist fees to conduct research and write interactive plays for children.

Sumner County
Gallatin Arts Council has received a grant to host a series of cultural activities in downtown Gallatin featuring ballet, theater and visual arts. 

Volunteer State Community College has received a grant to host a three-day bluegrass festival featuring local and regional artists.

VSA Arts Tennessee has received a grant to create a theater company for the hearing impaired children of Sumner County.

Williamson County
Arts Council of Williamson County has received a grant to provide monthly one hour hands-on art workshops for three- to six-year-olds and their caregivers, at Carnton Plantation or Carter House.

Boiler Room Theatre has received a grant to produce and perform the musical “Oliver.”

Franklin Housing Authority has received a grant to provide a series of drum, dance and culinary arts classes for residents of Franklin's public housing units.

Williamson County Youth Orchestra has received a grant to introduce and have the youth orchestra perform music and sounds from other cultures.

Wilson County
Cumberland University has received a grant to host art exhibits featuring five professional artists and a free public workshop.

Mt. Juliet Band Boosters Club, Inc., has received a grant to provide support for artists who train and teach members of the Band of Gold.
