Alex LeVasseur Memorial Festival Benefits Local Teens

Skate and Music Festival Remembers Alex and Features Activities for Families and Teens

Nashville, TN – Singer songwriter Jeffrey Steele and family and The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee announce the third annual Alex LeVasseur Memorial Skate and Music Festival from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Jim Warren Park in Franklin, Tenn. Proceeds will benefit the Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund of The Community Foundation, and its scholarship program to motivate kids.

Admission to the festival is free and kicks off with live music by Jeffrey Steele, American Bang, LoCash Cowboys, Ricky Young & Red White Blue, Pearl Heart, and more. The festival will feature food vendors, skate demos and merchandise, giveaways, autographed auction items, temporary tattoos, and a game booth. Vendors are cash only; auction items can be purchased with a credit card. Live music is scheduled throughout the festival, with Jeffrey Steele closing out the evening.

Alex LeVasseur, the 13-year-old son of hit songwriter Steele, passed away in early 2007 in a tragic accident. Alex was a friend to everyone and an example to his peers. To permanently memorialize Alex and share his passion for skating with other teenagers, his parents established the scholarship program through a Fund at The Community Foundation and planned the first annual festival in June 2007 to raise funds for a scholarship that motivates kids by providing incentives and mentors.

The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Scholarship Program works in conjunction with Sixth Avenue Skate Park in Nashville to aide overlooked and underprivileged youth by creating programs to keep them motivated in school and in life through skating, and by helping with the cost of skate camps.

The festival is open to all and welcomes teenagers who share Alex’s love of skating. Title sponsors are BMI and 3 Ring Circus Music & Records. Proceeds benefit the Alex LeVasseur Memorial Scholarship Program. Visit www.rememberalex.com for more information. About Jeffrey Steele / www.jeffreysteele.com
Songwriter, artist and producer Jeffrey Steele has become a Music Row fixture--one of contemporary country's most beloved characters. Today's top selling artists have come to trust the energetic songwriter with the easy, infectious grin. Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Pat Green, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw and numerous others have all turned to the two-time BMI Songwriter of the Year for a hit or two. Steele's own impassioned performances make him a constant favorite at songwriter festivals and his own full band gigs, where his rugged, boisterous vocals breathe new life both into songs made famous by the stars and other tunes that are patently his.
