Jeffrey Steele, Michael McDonald and Miley Cyrus Remember Alex LeVasseur

Singer songwriter Jeffrey Steele and his family celebrated the second annual Alex LeVasseur Memorial Skate Festival with hundreds of their friends and neighbors on June 29th at Jim Warren Park in Franklin.

The Festival remembers 13-year-old Alex LeVasseur who passed away in 2007 in a tragic ATV accident. His parents, Jeffrey Steele and Stephanie LeVasseur, established the Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund at The Community Foundation to memorialize Alex and to share his passion for skating with other teenagers.

Festival goers enjoyed skate demos by The Sixth Avenue Skate Shop, a rock wall, a silent auction, giveaways, and live music during the afternoon and evening. Several bands performed capped off by the incomparable Michael McDonald. Jeffrey Steele then took the stage to close the evening's lineup. Surprise guest Miley Cyrus joined Steele on stage singing a couple of songs, ending with a duet of Steele's "Hollywood Girl."

Proceeds from the event benefit the Fund and its scholarship program which helps kids attend the Sixth Avenue Skate Camp.

Passionate about the sport, Alex made many friends at skate camps and parks in the community. Make a gift to the Fund at www.cfmt.org, or visit www.rememberalex.com for more information.
