Nashvillians Observe Hunger Issues by Participating in Empty Bowls Campaign
Proceeds from campaign benefit new Fund for Food Security;
event through October 29 gives citizens a chance to ease unnecessary hunger in Middle Tennessee and worldwide
Nashville, TN – The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee along with University School of Nashville encourage Nashvillians to observe hunger issues by participating in the Empty Bowls campaign unveiling this week at The University School of Nashville through October 29. Proceeds from Empty Bowls campaign will go to the new Fund for Food Security, which supports hunger-related causes.
At the Artclectic exhibit, Empty Bowls will feature mixed media bowls created by students, which represent the hunger-related issues in Middle Tennessee and around the world. Materials used in the bowls include clay, paper mache’ and wood and other materials. The bowls will be displayed until October 29, when they will be available for sale. All proceeds will go to the Fund for Food Security, which is housed at The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
The Fund for Food Security assists organizations that actively support food-related efforts, including educating the public about the relationship between food, nutrition and health; encouraging proper food distribution; and addressing the root causes of hunger and food insecurity. In Middle Tennessee alone, malnutrition – coupled with a lack of resources, sustainable locally grown products and education – plagues thousands of citizens every day.
The Empty Bowls campaign was created to draw attention to unnecessary hunger and other food security problems that plague the world.
All participants of Empty Bowls can either purchase a bowl or donate to the Empty Bowls campaign and receive free ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s on October 28 and 29 at The University School of Nashville. There will be a free workshop on October 28 from 10-3 at USN for all families who would like to make a bowl and donate it to the Empty Bowls Bowl Bank.
The Fund for Food Security distributes donations to organizations in Middle Tennessee that work to ease hunger and promote nutrition. For more information on the Fund for Food Security, please visit www.cfmt.org.
