Jane Nelsen to Give Lecture and Workshop September 28 and 29

Nashville, Tennessee – Parents have an opportunity to learn positive discipline techniques for their children from renowned parenting expert and author Jane Nelsen, Ed.D. on September 28 and 29 during the fifth annual Edna S. Thomas Lecture Series. The programs are sponsored by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for parents and teachers of children ages preschool through adolescence.

The series is made possible by The Foundation’s Edna S. Thomas Fund. The fund was established in 2000 by Thomas’ daughter, Judy Lewis, to honor her mother’s outstanding parenting skills. The fund’s annual fall lecure series is specifically designed to help local parents learn to raise healthy, creative and compassionate children.

Nelsen, who co-authored the popular Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World, will give a free lecture to the public entitled “Positive Discipline for Raising Self-Reliant Children” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 at Montgomery Bell Academy, 4001 Harding Road. Nelsen will lead a workshop on “Practical Application of Positive Discipline Tools” on Wednesday, September 29, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Ave. Registration for the workshop is $10. Please call 321-4939 to reserve a seat.

“Dr. Nelsen brings an enormous amount of expertise in working with children to this lecture and workshop,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation. “I’m sure Edna Thomas, who was an exceptional parent, would approve of the innovative and everyday advice that Dr. Nelsen will share with the public in her name and I’m grateful to Judy Lewis and her family for having these philanthropic dreams and allowing The Community Foundation to make them a reality.”
