NEW SCHOLARSHIP FUND TO HONOR BELOVED COMMUNITY BUS DRIVER
Boyd Stressed the Importance of Education; Cheatham County High School Seniors Eligible for Scholarship Funds
Nashville, Tennessee – The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a charitable organization that benefits nonprofits serving worthy causes, today announced the addition of the Dody Boyd Scholarship Fund to its Scholarship Program.
The fund was established by Ronnie Boyd in memoriam of his late wife, Dody Boyd, a lifetime resident of Cheatham County. Mrs. Boyd, who drove bus #13 for the Cheatham County School District for many years, died in April in a tragic car accident. Local businessman John E. Mayfield matched funds to help establish the scholarship.
Deserving Cheatham County high school seniors will be eligible for the scholarship. The recipient of the award must plan on attending a two year or four year institution of higher learning.
Mrs. Boyd was herself a graduate of the Cheatham County School System. She served as a source of motivation and inspiration to the students in which she came in contact. In addition to her regular route, she drove for a number of Cheatham County athletics teams.
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Scholarship Program is made up of more than 40 different scholarship funds established by individuals, firms or organizations wanting to assist individuals in furthering their educations. Students apply to the program and, if eligible, can be awarded grants from one or more of these different funds.
