$456,270 in Grants Awarded to 106 Davidson County Organizations by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee – The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has distributed $1,013,407 in grants to 189 nonprofit organizations as part of The Foundation’s annual grant making process. 

“Our grants are the heart and soul of what we do as we connect the generosity of hundreds of Middle Tennesseans with the non-profits addressing our community’s needs,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation. “The Community Foundation is a place where every gift matters because when combined they can have an enormous impact across the area and across issues spanning ‘arts to education to health and human services to zoology.’  Our local non-profits are doing wonderful work and it is our privilege to offer them support.”

  • Actors Bridge Ensemble has received a $5,000 grant to host a summer writing and performance camp for teen girls.
  • Adventure Science Center has received a $5,000 grant to provide learning guides for the new BodyQuest exhibit.
  • The Tennessee Chapter of the ALS Association has received a $4,000 grant to provide respite care to all ALS patients and their primary caregivers.
  • The American Association of Refugee & Immigrant Women has received a $5,000 grant to provide immigration/citizenship education to individuals seeking US citizenship.
  • American Roots Music Education has received a $5,000 grant to provide free or low-cost interactive musical presentations to schools.
  • Bastion, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to purchase equipment to produce mobile workshops on personal/business finance issues.
  • Belcourt YES! has received a $3,000 grant to provide age appropriate programming for children at the theater.
  • Bellevue Harpeth Historic Association has received a $1,000 grant to furnish the cabin with original or reproductions of primitive furniture.
  • Bethlehem Centers of Nashville has received a $5,000 grant to underwrite the “Just between Girls” summit for 120 middle school girls
  • Better Tomorrows Adult Education has received a $2,000 grant to purchase basic skills interactive software for the literacy and GED programs.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee has received a $4,650 grant to provide activity boxes and transportation at the school-based mentoring sites for high school students.
  • Big Brothers of Nashville, Inc. has received a $2,000 grant to provide food vouchers and food baskets to individuals in emergency situations.
  • Book ‘EM! has received a $2,500 grant to provide Spanish/English bilingual books to children as well as bilingual volunteer readers.
  • Bridge Program has received a $2,000 grant to recruit college-age teachers to mentor and teach 7th through 10th grade East Nashville students. 
  • Center for Nonprofit Management has received a $5,000 grant to provide nonprofits with high quality consulting and expert advice.
  • Center for Youth Issues (STARS) has received a $10,000 grant to provide teen pregnancy prevention and early intervention services to youth of Williamson County.
  • Cheekwood has received a $3,000 grant to provide hands-on interactive educational materials to enhance family learning experiences.
  • Conexion Americas received a $5,000 grant to support Latino immigrant families understand the tax system, rights and responsibilities in the U.S.
  • Council on Aging of Greater Nashville has received a $5,000 grant to publish 35,000 copies of the Directory of Services for Seniors.
  • Creative Artists of Tennessee has received a $4,000 grant to create an original ballet on the history of African Americans in the U.S.
  • Creative Recovery Communities/Community High School has received a $2,000 grant to purchase art supplies for the art therapy program.
  • Davidson County Sheriff’s Office has received a $4,998 grant to operate a dog training program using inmates.
  • Domestic Violence Intervention Center has received a $5,000 grant to support direct counseling services for victims and intervention with abusers.
  • Downtown Ministry Center has received a $5,000 grant to begin a savings match program for women seeking permanent housing.
  • Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee has received a $2,000 grant to develop, train and provide program supplies for three new Speakers Bureau presentations.
  • Exchange Club Family Center has received a $5,000 grant to provide in-home casework services for English and Spanish families with children.
  • Faith Family Medical Center received a $5,000 grant to cover the cost of lab fees for 1,000 patients formerly on TennCare.
  • Family and Children’s Service received a $5,000 grant to study and monitor 60 low-income mothers of newborns to assess their mental health and support services needed.
  • Fannie Battle Day Home for Children received a $4,271 grant to replace four computers in the preschool, pre-K and two school-aged classrooms.
  • First Steps, Inc. received a $3,000 grant to create an indoor therapy playground program for children with special needs.
  • Friends in General received a $4,000 grant to provide free mammogram screenings to women over 40.
  • Friends of the Public Library of Nashville and Davidson County received a $5,000 grant to bring four world-class classical guitarists to Nashville for a series of free concerts.
  • The Frist Center for the Visual Arts received a $5,000 grant to expand the art trunk program through the community outreach initiative.
  • The Girl Scout Council of Cumberland Valley, Inc. received a $5,000 grant to provide a weekly, year-round troop program for vulnerable girls.
  • Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to provide transportation vouchers for individuals who are actively involved in job seeking.
  • Grace M. Eaton Daycare Center has received a $5,000 grant to supplement daycare fees for working mothers in need of quality childcare.
  • Hands on Nashville has received a $12,500 grant to strengthen internal disaster response capacity for volunteer coordination.
  • Hands with Heart Foundation, Inc. has received a $2,000 grant to provide deaf children with equipment necessary for independent living.
  • Interfaith Dental Clinic has received a $5,000 grant to provide emergency dental care to relieve urgent pain and infection in 400 individuals.
  • Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to purchase instruments and music materials for a music program for inner-city children.
  • King’s Daughters Day Home has received a $4,961 grant to replace worn classroom furniture and provide a welcoming atmosphere for children.
  • Land Trust for Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to provide transaction assistance grants to help landowners to preserve their land.
  • The League for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has received a $5,000 grant to open a satellite office in Murfreesboro.
  • Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands received a $3,000 grant to provide assistance to victims of domestic violence with goods and services.
  • Luke 14:12 has received a $1,200 grant to provide four meals a year for homeless guests.
  • Magdalene has received a $3,500 grant to underwrite a partnership with Interfaith Dental to provide dental care for all Magdalene women.
  • Martha O’Bryan Center has received a $5,000 grant to expand the afterschool program.
  • Matthew Walker Health Center has received a $4,300 grant to subsidize transportation costs for uninsured patients.
  • McNeilly Center for Children has received a $3,300 grant to install rubber mulch in the toddler playground.
  • Mending Hearts, Inc. has received a $2,100 grant to provide basic necessity packages for women clients recovering from addiction.
  • Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to expand the educational and support group for Hispanic women to Rutherford County.
  • Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation has received a $5,000 grant to produce a documentary on the issue of poverty in Nashville.
  • Monroe Harding Inc. has received a $3,000 grant to assist with the purchase of a vehicle for transporting residents.
  • Morning Star Sanctuary has received a $5,000 grant to provide basic needs for women fleeing violent homes.
  • NAMI Tennessee has received a $4,000 grant to educate the community about mental illness through presentations by people with mental illness.
  • Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity has received a $4,100 to develop a community-building mural project for low-income partner families.
  • Nashville Ballet has received a $5,000 grant to create a ballet for Head Start children in Davidson County.
  • Nashville CARES has received a $4,000 grant to provide an HIV prevention education program for women.
  • Nashville Chess Center has received a $500.00 grant to cover the cost of a scholastic chess tournament at Megis Middle School.
  • Nashville Child Advocacy Center has received a $3,823 grant to purchase therapeutic devices, games, books and CDs for work with abused children.
  • Nashville Children’s Theatre has received a $4,748 grant to support actor’s salaries in a new production of “Einstein is a Dummy”.
  • Nashville Drug Court Support Foundation has received a $5,000 grant to provide dental care and repair for residents.
  • Nashville Film Festival has received a $5,000 grant to cover the costs for the GLBT portion of the film festival.
  • Nashville Jazz Workshop has received a $5,000 grant to present a series of lectures and musical performances on jazz history.
  • Nashville Opera Association has received a $5,000 grant to provide a six-week opera tour for youth in 15 Middle Tennessee counties.
  • Nashville Opportunities Industrialization Center has received a $3,200 grant to provide salary support and supplies for the instructor of the evening GED classes at St. Luke’s.
  • Nashville Public Library Foundation has received a $5,000 grant to support the puppeteers on the traveling puppet truck.
  • Nashville Public Radio has received a $5,000 grant to host performances of local classical musicians on “Live in Studio C”.
  • Nashville Public Television Council Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to implement a series of 20 workshops to raise the literacy levels of the Kurdish, Iraqi, Somali, Sudanese and Hispanic children.
  • Nashville Shakespeare Festival has received a $5,000 grant to produce Shakespeare in the Park activities.
  • National Conference for Community & Justice of Middle Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to offer a multigenerational Anytown program.
  • Nature Conservancy of Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to facilitate eight to ten workshops to discuss the impacts of growth and water quality of the Duck River watershed.
  • Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to support parents of medically fragile babies with nurse home visits and case management.
  • Oasis Center, Inc. has received a $3,500 grant to provide transportation and childcare assistance to youth and families participating in services.
  • Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to provide bed and bath linens and small household appliances for use in the transitional housing program.
  • Parent-Teacher Org at Glendale Elementary School has received a $2,600 grant to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the performing arts through a student production.
  • Park Center has received a $4,999 grant to provide 20 welcome home starter kits for independent housing residents.
  • PENCIL Foundation has received a $2,500 grant to provide 100 backpacks with basic school supplies for economically disadvantaged students.
  • People’s Branch Theatre has received a $2,000 grant to underwrite 500 student tickets for a premiere production of locally written work.
  • Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to provide four free cervical cancer screening clinics for women.
  • Preston Taylor Ministries has received a $4,000 grant to sponsor fine art instruction for 30 children while parents participate in career development workshops.
  • Prevent Blindness Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to provide seniors with services including vision screenings, eye exams, eyeglasses and referrals.
  • Progress Inc. has received a $3,425 grant to equip a room with furnishings and materials for 50 adults with mental retardation.
  • Rape and Sexual Abuse Center has received a $3,000 grant to provide counseling for low-income female children and adolescents who have been sexually abused.
  • Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic has received a $5,000 grant to expand its educational outreach services to print disabled students in eight counties.
  • Renewal House has received a $2,710 grant to support a research-based substance abuse prevention abuse program that will serve children and mothers.
  • Safe Haven Family Shelter has received a $5,000 grant to provide comprehensive training that allows families to achieve and sustain long-term success.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank has received a $5,000 grant to begin a mobile pantry program.
  • Senior Center for the Arts has received a $5,000 grant to provide free performances and transportation to seniors in five counties.
  • Siloam Family Health Center has received a $5,000 grant to develop an English and Spanish new patient orientation DVD for patients.
  • St. Luke’s Community House has received a $5,000 grant to support the child development program.
  • Sudanese Community Association of Tennessee has received a $4,700 grant to train women in the skills and expertise in sewing clothes.
  • Technology Access Center has received a $5,000 grant to acquire assistive technology for trial use by children and adults with disabilities.
  • Tennessee Art League has received a $5,000 grant to support artists teaching at-risk youth in three underserved Metro middle schools.
  • Tennessee Artist’s Guild has received $4,500 grant to purchase 150 chairs for the theater.
  • Tennessee Center for Nursing has received a $5,000 grant to implement an online clinical placement program for RN and LPN students.
  • Tennessee Equality Project Foundation has received a $1,000 grant to provide public discourses on issues affecting the GLBT community.
  • Tennessee Holocaust Commission, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to add audio testimonials to existing portraits and biographies on agency’s web site.
  • Tennessee Performing Arts Center has received a $2,000 grant to offer two HOT performances for youth and one show that explores diverse cultures and religions.
  • Tennessee Poison Center has received a $4,185 grant to distribute a poison awareness video program to 279 Head Start classrooms in Middle Tennessee.
  • Time to Rise Camps has received a $5,000 grant to provide summer camp to youths.
  • Tying Nashville Together has received a $5,000 grant to offer support, training and mediation to help parents non-aggressively articulate their position.
  • You Have the Power, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant to print a resource guide on Meth that will help users to define, identify and respond to Meth use in their community.
  • Youth Encouragement Services has received a $5,000 grant to purchase a bus to transport children to afterschool and summer programming.
  • Youth Villages has received a $3,500 grant to recruit adoptive families for children who are waiting for permanent homes.
  • YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee has received a $5,000 grant to continue outreach efforts to GLBT communities on domestic violence.
