The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Names New Board Members

Nashville, Tenn. – The board of directors of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee announces three new members to the board: Bert Mathews, Deborah Tate and David Williams.

“These individuals’ extraordinary range of talent and dedication to our community will be an outstanding addition to our already superb board,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. “We are grateful these proven visionaries have committed their leadership to The Community Foundation’s work to address Middle Tennessee’s needs and emerging opportunities.”

Bert Mathews is a Nashville real estate investor, as well as a community leader in both civic and professional organizations. Mathews is Vice Chairman of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce; a member of Cumberland Region Tomorrow; Vice Chairman & Secretary/Treasurer of Nashville’s Central Business Improvement District, Nashville Downtown Partnership; and Chairman of the Urban Land Institute Nashville District Council (ULI).

Deborah Tate is a former United States FCC Commissioner. Tate was nominated by President George W. Bush, unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate and sworn in as FCC Commissioner on March 1, 2006. She has spoken out in favor of digital rights management and suggested TV may be a contributing factor in childhood obesity.

David Williams currently serves as Vice Chancellor for University Affairs and Athletics, General Counsel and University Secretary at The Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. Williams is a tenured professor at the Vanderbilt School of Law and teaches courses at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College. He serves as a Vice Chancellor at Vanderbilt, where he oversees student athletics; the 13-member General Counsel Office; the Office of Risk Management; the University’s Compliance and Conflict of Interest functions; and the operations of the University’s Board of Trust.
